Annual Compassion Parade to End Violence

The Fourth Annual Compassion Parade will be held on Saturday April 18, 2015. The parade will begin at 10:00 AM and all volunteers/participants are encouraged to arrive at 9:45 AM for the parade line-up. The parade will start at Chicago Avenue and Pulaski at Orr Academy High School, 730 N. Pulaski. The parade will end at Chicago Avenue and Kedzie Avenue at Kells Park, 3201 W. Chicago Avenue.

Annual Easter Egg Hunt in Kells Park

Come out and join the fun for the Annual Kells Park Easter Egg Hunt in West Humboldt Park! This free event will take place on April 3 at 2pm in Kells Park, located at 3201 West Chicago Avenue, at the corner of Chicago and Kedzie Avenues.

Hillshire Brands Foundation Supports the Healthy Community Initiative

In November 2014, The West Humboldt Park Development Council (WHPDC) received a grant award from Hillshire Brands Foundation to support the Healthy Mind, Healthy Body, Healthy You Program as part of the West Humboldt Park Healthy Community Initiative (HCI). The grant award of $50,000 will provide financial support for the WHPDC to sustain Humboldt Park's Free Healthy Cooking and Exercise Program.

April Showers Bring Volunteers and May Flowers at Ujima Community Garden

The West Humboldt Park Ujima Community Garden has a fair share of volunteer support from community partners and residents to help the garden flourish. The word ‘Ujima’ originates from Kwanzaa, meaning collective work and responsibility. Once a vacant lot full of contaminated soil, it has transformed into a beautiful garden, thanks to the many partners and residents who have contributed to its development. Does the idea of corner stores along Chicago Avenue selling fresh produce, and healthy snacks such as yogurt, nuts, dried fruit and energy bars sound like wishful thinking?  How about smoothies and fresh fruit juices?  Are you tired of the poor food choices, a heavy emphasis on high-fat junk foods and poor store appearance and cleanliness?  The Corner Stores Campaign is a neighborhood and community based effort to engage with store owners and through persuasion and incentives help stores offer healthier foods in a healthier environment.
