Chicago FarmWorks Urban Farm Program

The West Humboldt Park Development Council in collaboration with Heartland Human Care Services, Inc. (HHCS) provides new unsubsidized job opportunities for low income residents of Chicago. WHPDC provides referrals of participants from the 27th Ward for the Chicago FarmWorks Urban Farm Program, which focuses on providing transitional jobs in low-income, underserved communities. This builds on WHPDC's current partnership with HHCS on these employment initiatives for low-income community residents who are overcoming barriers to employment. WHPDC and HHCS have partnered successfully for many referrals that have resulted in successful long-term unsubsidized placements for multiple-barrier residents.

Building Employment and Entrepreneurial Partnerships Program (BEEP)

The WHPDC established BEEP in October of 2006 due to a need for a local hiring strategy to keep track of development projects that pledged to hire locally. This job referral program was established to ensure that community residents participate in, and profit from the construction, hiring and economic development of the community. BEEP provides referrals of various services to the residents of West Humboldt Park:

  • Job Referral and Placement
  • Educational Enhancement Opportunities
  • Training & Scholarship Opportunities
  • Continuing Education (GED)
  • Job Readiness Workshops
  • Entrepreneurial Workshops/Fairs
  • Re-entry Services for Ex-offenders
  • Job Fairs

BEEP is currently undergoing a new strategic planning process. For more information about this program, please contact the WHPDC at (773) 342-0036.
